1039th Separate Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment named after Colonel-General Mykola Kapustianskyi is a formation of the Air Defense Missile Forces within the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is designated for air defense and the protection of troops and facilities against enemy air attacks. The regiment bears the honorary title in honor of Colonel-General Mykola Kapustianskyi.
Formation History
The regiment traces its origins to a Soviet army unit established in November 1953. After Ukraine gained independence, the regiment became part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In August 2008, the regiment was preparing for military exercises near Feodosia. Since 2014, with the start of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), the regiment began carrying out combat missions, defending the skies from Avdiivka to Mariupol.
Key Battles
Since the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the 1039th Regiment has been actively performing air defense missions on the eastern front. Regiment units have been providing protection of Ukrainian airspace, particularly in the areas of Avdiivka and Mariupol, from enemy air attacks.
Honors and Awards
On December 11, 2024, according to Presidential Decree No. 852/2024, the regiment was granted the honorary title in honor of Colonel-General Mykola Kapustianskyi. This distinction recognizes the regiment’s contributions to the defense of Ukraine’s airspace and the high professionalism of its personnel.
