

Territorial Defense Brigade of the Northern Military District
The 118th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade (118th TDF Brigade) is based in the Cherkasy region of Ukraine. It was established on June 30, 2018, by order of the President of Ukraine as part of the reform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During its formation, the brigade united 6 units (battalions) located in the cities of Smila, Zolotonosha, Uman, Zvenyhorodka, and Cherkasy.
The 118th TDF Brigade includes the following units:
From its establishment until July 9, 2024, the commander of the 118th TDF Brigade was Colonel Anatolii Illiich Stuzhenko. From July 9, 2024 to the present — Lieutenant Colonel Yaroslav Volodymyrovych Popko.
The shoulder sleeve insignia of the 118th TDF Brigade has a heraldic appearance of a blue (light blue) shield, bordered with a yellow edge. At the center of the insignia is a golden drawn bow with an arrow directed downward. This symbol reflects the military affiliation and readiness of the brigade to defend its territory. Thanks to the dedication and patriotism of the servicemen of the 118th TDF Brigade, this unit has become an integral part of Ukraine’s defense. It plays an important role in protecting the country’s territory from threats during the Russian invasion.
The brigade’s units took part in battles in Popasna, Bakhmut, Vuhledar, Kurakhove, and the Kursk region. They carry out combat missions in the Siversk, Zaporizhzhia directions and along the northern border of Ukraine.
According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 828/2024 dated December 5, 2024, the 118th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was awarded the honorary name “named after Otaman Liutyi-Liutenko” and shall hereafter be referred to as the 118th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade named after Otaman Liutyi-Liutenko of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 106/2025 dated February 21, 2025, the highest state award “Hero of Ukraine” (posthumously) for personal courage and heroism shown in defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and selfless service to the Ukrainian people, was awarded to Junior Sergeant Petro Volodymyrovych Stepanenko, combat medic of the fire support platoon of the fire support company of the 159th Separate Territorial Defense Battalion of the 118th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade.
