The 120th Reconnaissance Regiment was established in March 2022 as a battalion, shortly after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The unit was formed from a core of mobilized personnel, reservists with combat experience, and seasoned career military officers.
Combat Role and Deployment As a combat unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, the 120th Regiment has proven its effectiveness across the most intense frontlines of the war. Its soldiers have conducted operations in Chernihiv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions, and they continue to be actively engaged on multiple fronts today. The regiment is equipped with a wide arsenal of modern weapons and technology, enabling it to operate efficiently in the context of high-mobility warfare.
Transformation and Symbolism In September 2023, under the order of the Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, the reconnaissance battalion was expanded into a regiment, marking a significant milestone in its evolution. Alongside this transformation, the unit's symbolic insignia also changed — the legendary Flamberge patch was replaced with a new emblem representing the regiment.
Operational Tasks The regiment continues to play a crucial role in the war, conducting missions to detect and eliminate enemy positions, equipment, and personnel, actively contributing to Ukraine's defense across the frontlines.
