The formation of tank troops as part of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
In 1992, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the 300th Training Tank Regiment of the Soviet Army became part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and its servicemen took the oath of allegiance to the Ukrainian people. In 2015, as part of a broader military reform, the unit was stripped of its Soviet-era honorary titles and awards. As of 2011, the unit's emblem featured a heraldic shield with a black background, signifying affiliation with the tank forces. In the center of the shield was the front-facing head of a wolf against crossed swords pointing upward, all in gold (yellow). The wolf’s head was rendered in silver (white), red, and black. Below was an image of a green tank. The wolf head, swords, and tank symbolized the unit’s primary mission — training future tank operators for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The wolf head was also used on the regiment’s unofficial shoulder patch. As with the 354th Training Mechanized Regiment, the presence of the “Guards” designation and state award was represented by ribbons at the top of the shield, while the honorary title was inscribed on a blue ribbon.
The 300th Training Tank Regiment is a unit of the 169th Training Center of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Its history dates back to 1942, when it was formed as part of the Red Army. During World War II, the regiment distinguished itself in the battles for Sandomierz, for which it received the honorary title “Sandomierz” and the Order of Alexander Nevsky. After the war, the regiment continued its activities as a training unit, preparing tank operators for the armed forces.
Today, the 300th Training Tank Regiment is one of Ukraine’s leading centers for training tank crews. Its personnel participate in a wide range of exercises and competitions, demonstrating a high level of professional preparation.
A memorial dedicated to fallen servicemen is installed on the regiment’s grounds, highlighting its long history and contribution to Ukraine’s defense.
