Mechanized unit of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The 31st Mechanized Brigade (31 ОМБр) is a mechanized unit within the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, consisting of full brigade-strength personnel.
When the brigade was first formed, it was equipped largely with Soviet-era weaponry, in contrast to nine other brigades created at the same time, which received training and equipment from Western sources.
On 26 June 2023, the brigade launched an attack in the area of Rivnopil and successfully captured the village. The 2nd Battalion of the brigade managed to dislodge the 394th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the russian forces from a height, using a maneuver that surrounded and forced the russians to retreat.
Prior to this, russian propaganda claimed that the 31st Brigade, together with the 23rd Mechanized Brigade, which operated in the same area, had been destroyed. However, the successful actions on the battlefield disproved these claims.
The command of the brigade has been actively recognizing the professionalism and bravery of its personnel. The commander of the brigade, Colonel Serhiy Smolyak, personally awarded state honors to soldiers, including the Order of Courage (III class) and Medals for Exemplary Service, for their outstanding performance and contributions.
The 31st Separate Mechanized Brigade has proven itself as a formidable force, demonstrating both tactical skill and resilience in the face of intense opposition.
