35th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Ostrohradskyi
The 35th Separate Marine Brigade includes the 137th Separate Marine Battalion and the 88th Separate Marine Battalion.
The 35th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Ostrohradskyi was formed in September 2018. The date of creation is defined as September 21. The 35th Separate Marine Brigade includes the 137th Separate Marine Battalion and the 88th Separate Marine Battalion.
Before the start of the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation, the 35th Separate Marine Brigade twice successfully carried out combat missions in the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) area: from March to November 2019 in the area of Volnovakha (Donetsk region), and from June 2020 to February 2021 in the area of Toretsk (Donetsk region). With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation’s troops into the territory of Ukraine, the 137th Separate Marine Battalion of the 35th Separate Marine Brigade carried out combat missions as part of the operational-tactical grouping “South” on the Crimean Isthmus in order to deter the advance of Russian troops in the southern direction.
Also, the core of the garrison on Snake Island consisted of marines from the 88th Separate Marine Battalion and the 35th Separate Marine Brigade.
From the first days of the war, the brigade covered the ports in Odesa and Chornomorsk. The brigade’s artillery took an active part in fire strikes on Snake Island, after which the Russian Federation made a “gesture of goodwill” and left the island. Since March, separate units of the military unit have carried out combat missions to deter the advance of Russian Federation troops in the territories of Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia regions.
From May 2022, a battalion tactical group of the brigade based on the 18th Separate Marine Battalion, and from August — the entire brigade, took part in the liberation of the right-bank part of Kherson region, where, during the fighting, the settlements of Andriivka, Bilohirka, Davydiv Brid and others were liberated.
After the liberation of the right-bank parts of Kherson and Mykolaiv regions (from November 2022 and as of the present date), the brigade was redeployed to the eastern direction of the state. Units of the brigade took part in battles in the Avdiivka, Marinka, Vuhledar and Shakhtarsk directions.
During the offensive operation of the operational-tactical grouping “Donetsk” in the Velyka Novosilka direction, servicemen of the brigade liberated the settlements of Neskuchne, Storozheve, Makarivka, Staromaiorske, Urozhaine.
In the autumn of 2023, the 35th Separate Marine Brigade was redeployed to Kherson region, where the brigade’s units carried out a landing on the left bank of the Dnipro River and established a bridgehead in the area of the settlement of Krynky.
In the autumn of 2024, the 35th Separate Marine Brigade returned to the eastern direction — units carried out operations in the areas of Kurakhove, Novopavlivka, Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. For the demonstrated courage, bravery, and heroism of the personnel, as well as for the high performance in combat missions, the 35th Separate Marine Brigade and its subordinate 137th and 88th Separate Marine Battalions were awarded by the President of Ukraine with the honorary distinction “For Courage and Bravery.”
