The 354th Training Mechanized Regiment was originally established on January 20, 1943, as the 11th Guards Airborne Regiment. Over the years, it underwent several transformations and re-designations:

  • In 1953, it was reformed into the 354th Guards Rifle Regiment, later named the Kishinev Regiment, and awarded the Order of Suvorov.
  • In 1957, it became a Motorized Rifle Regiment and, in 1960, it was restructured into a Training Motorized Rifle Regiment.
  • In 2006, the regiment adopted its current name: 354th Training Guards Mechanized Regiment, retaining the prestigious Order of Suvorov recognition.

The regiment’s shoulder sleeve insignia features a shield divided into four fields by a cross: the first and fourth fields are blue, while the second and third are crimson. At the center is the head of a lynx, flanked by crossed sabers, with an infantry fighting vehicle below. The upper part of the shield displays a Guards ribbon and the ribbon of the Order of Suvorov, symbolizing the regiment’s honorary titles and military distinctions.

Current Role: Today, the 354th Training Mechanized Regiment plays a pivotal role in the training of personnel for mechanized units within the Ukrainian Ground Forces. It prepares soldiers to operate and manage armored vehicles, including infantry fighting vehicles, and equips them with the necessary skills for combat in mechanized units.

The regiment is known for its experienced instructors, many of whom have combat experience from prestigious units like the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade and the Azov Regiment. This expertise ensures that soldiers receive practical, battle-tested training that is essential for the readiness of the Ukrainian military in the ongoing conflict.

The regiment’s continued significance lies in its critical role in preparing future generations of soldiers, ensuring that the mechanized infantry units are well-equipped to face modern combat challenges.
