The 43rd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Hetman Taras Triasylo is a formation of the mechanized troops of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Full official name: 43rd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Hetman Taras Triasylo.
History of Formation The brigade was formed in 2023 as part of the expansion of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. From the very beginning, the 43rd SMB was established as a new-generation combat unit, taking into account the experience of modern warfare, with an emphasis on flexibility, reconnaissance capabilities, and cooperation with drones and artillery. According to open sources, its base is located in the central part of Ukraine.
Key Battles and Combat Participation The 43rd Brigade has been actively involved in combat operations in eastern Ukraine. As of 2023–2024, it took part in battles in the Bakhmut direction, particularly near the settlements of Klishchiivka and Kurdyumivka, as well as in southern Donetsk region. The brigade operated in close coordination with artillery and assault groups, conducted reconnaissance missions, destroyed enemy equipment, and secured liberated positions.
Awards and Distinctions On October 5, 2023, the brigade was granted the honorary title named after Hetman Taras Triasylo — an outstanding military leader of the Cossack era who led an uprising against the Polish nobility in the 17th century. This designation symbolizes bravery, continuity, and the preservation of Ukraine’s military traditions.
