The 44th Separate Mechanized Brigade (44th SMB) is a mechanized formation of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The brigade was formed in 2023 and is part of the Ground Forces of the AFU. Its motto is: “Our destiny is only freedom.”
Formation History
The brigade was established in 2023 as part of the expansion and modernization of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In August 2023, the unit was deployed near the front line in the area of Kreminna, Luhansk region. In November of the same year, Leopard 1A5 tanks belonging to the brigade were observed near the eastern front line in Ukraine.
Key Battles and Combat Involvement
In 2023, the brigade was engaged in combat operations near Kreminna. In March 2025, Leopard 1A5 tanks of the 44th Brigade were involved in operations in the Kharkiv direction. The brigade also participated in battles in eastern Ukraine, including the Svatove district of Luhansk region.
