5th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade

The 5th Heavy Mechanized Brigade began its formation on January 10, 2023, originally established as the 5th Separate Tank Brigade. By the end of 2024, the unit was restructured into its current form as a heavy mechanized brigade.

Key Operations

• In February 2024, the brigade started performing combat tasks on the Zaporizhzhia front, particularly near the settlement of Robotyne.
• Currently, the brigade is stationed on the Pokrovsk front, where it plays a crucial role in strategic operations.

Involvement in the Full-Scale russian Invasion

• The brigade was heavily engaged in combat during the 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine, notably on the southern front, with significant involvement in Mykolaiv and Kherson regions.
• In 2023, it participated in the liberation of Kherson, and in 2024, it fought in the battles for Mykolaiv.
• In January 2025, the brigade was redeployed to the eastern front to take part in defensive operations.
