The battalion was formed in 2005. With the onset of Russian aggression in 2014, the unit became actively involved in combat operations in eastern Ukraine.
Key battles:
Ilovaisk (2014): In September 2014, soldiers of the 74th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion performed infantry duties in the Marinka area, covering the frontline after the withdrawal of other units.
Donetsk Airport (2014–2015): The battalion took part in the defense of the new terminal, carrying out artillery fire correction missions. On December 28, 2014, soldiers of the 74th Battalion raised the Ukrainian flag over the new terminal of the airport.
Avdiivka, Pisky, Marinka: The unit operated actively in these areas, performing reconnaissance and combat missions.
2022–2023: The battalion participated in battles near Avdiivka, Krasnohorivka, Marinka, Horlivka, Selydove, Kurakhove, Horyanyk, Kurakhivka, Karlivka, and Novohrodivka, conducting counter-sabotage and reconnaissance operations against enemy forces.
In 2018, servicemen of the 74th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion were awarded for their participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation. Their return was marked with honors, certificates, and commemorative gifts.
