As of 2017, 240 servicemen of the regiment took part in combat operations in the war in eastern Ukraine. They performed the task of defending the Motherland in Debaltseve, Shchastia, Popasna, Savur-Mohyla, Stanytsia Luhanska, Mariupol, Shyrokyne, etc. In 2015, Presidential Decree No. 646/2015 abolished Soviet awards and changed the name of the regiment to the Separate Kyiv Regiment of the President of Ukraine. On 15 December 2017, the President of Ukraine awarded the regiment the honorary name of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytskyi and presented the regiment with a battle banner. The full name of the Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Separate Presidential Regiment restored the Ukrainian military tradition of naming military units after prominent Cossack hetmans, colonels and atamans. The date of the ceremony was timed to coincide with the Ultimatum of the Council of People's Commissars, which was the de facto declaration of war by the Soviet Union against the Ukrainian People's Republic. In January 2022, on the 30th anniversary of its creation, the regiment was deployed to a brigade with two additional battalions. The full-scale Russian invasion (from 24 February 2022) In February - March 2022, the brigade's units took part in battles against the Russian invaders during the defence of Kyiv and its surroundings. The brigade's soldiers repeatedly hit enemy missiles firing at the capital. In particular, on 16 December 2022, platoon commander Andrii Diachuk shot down two enemy cruise missiles flying towards Kyiv from a portable anti-aircraft missile system "Stinger". After the victory in the battle for the capital, the brigade was involved in battles in eastern Ukraine, in particular near Kharkiv, Bakhmut and Avdiivka. In early July 2023, the Commander of the Land Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, noted the quality work of the "Ghost" group from the brigade in the Bakhmut direction. In particular, a sniper of this unit with the call sign "Alpha" destroyed the enemy from a distance of 1200 metres. The brigade's soldiers actively used FPV drones to counter the advance of Russian equipment in the Vuhledar and Bakhmut sectors.
