

The 19th missile brigade was formed in October-November 1997 on the basis of the Directive of the Minister of Defense dated April 1, 1997 No. 111/1/0116. November 9, 1997 is officially considered the day of creation of the unit. Organizationally, the brigade became part of the 1st missile division of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which was formed on the funds of the 19th Zaporizhzhya Red Banner Order of Suvorov and Kutuzov of the II degree missile division from the missile forces of strategic purpose and control of the 43rd Missile Army. In the fall of 1999, the Battle Flag of the 19th Missile Division of the Russian Armed Forces with combat awards — the orders of the Red Banner, Suvorov and Kutuzov II degrees was solemnly handed over to the 1st Missile Division, which included the 19th Missile Brigade.
19th Separate Missile Brigade “St. Barbara” is a missile formation of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The brigade is directly subordinate to the Command of the Ground Forces of Ukraine. In 2019, it was granted the honorary name “St. Barbara” — in honor of the patron saint of artillerymen.
Formation History
The brigade was formed in October–November 1997 by directive of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine. The official founding date is considered to be November 9, 1997. After major reductions in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in early 2014, the 19th Brigade remained the only missile formation directly subordinated to the Ground Forces Command and equipped with tactical missile systems.
Key Battles
Since the beginning of russian aggression against Ukraine, the brigade has carried out missions in the Joint Forces Operation (formerly ATO) zone. Since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, the 19th Brigade has operated actively across all combat fronts, delivering precision strikes against enemy forces. In particular, the brigade participated in strikes on targets in Crimea, Berdyansk, and Melitopol.
Honors and Awards
In January 2020, the brigade received its honorary unit flag, which features the official emblem of the brigade and its patron saint — St. Barbara. Additionally, the brigade’s servicemen have been recognized for their participation in combat, including Viktor Yashchenko, who served in the 19th Missile Brigade and other units and was nominated for the title Hero of Ukraine.
