One-time fundraisers are a reaction. A subscription is a system. It is exactly this difference that makes more and more combat units look for tools of regular support, not only bright campaigns during moments of escalation.
“Subscribe to army” is a platform that allows anyone to choose a specific unit and set up a recurring payment starting from UAH 10 per month. 100% of the funds, without commissions, go directly to the official account of the brigade. Currently, more than 190 units are represented on the platform, the total amount of collected funds has exceeded UAH 1 million, and more than UAH 230,000 is received every month from over 1,900 subscribers.
One of the brigades on the platform is the 28th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Knights of the Winter Campaign. 86 subscribers, over UAH 95,000 raised.
A brigade where experience is not lost
The 28th Separate Mechanized Brigade was founded in 1998. Since 2014 — continuously involved in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Kherson, Mykolaiv, Posad-Pokrovske, Donetsk region. Now the brigade is operating in the Kostiantynivka direction — one of the hottest.
“For us, it is not one specific episode, but the entire path of the brigade from 2014 to today. We are proud that the brigade endured the hardest periods of the war and continues to fight, preserving its character and its people,” says Serhii Khutsanu, serviceman of the Recruitment Center of the 28th Separate Mechanized Brigade.
The brigade includes experienced sergeants, combat instructors, and foreign volunteers. Its own combat training system makes it possible to prepare people even before carrying out combat missions. “We try to build an army where experience is passed on, not lost. Our steel has changed, but our character has not,” he emphasizes.
Speed as the main challenge
Modern war is a constant expenditure of resources that cannot be fully covered centrally. FPV drones, batteries, Starlink, vehicle repairs, EW systems, generators, antennas, pickups — and this is only part of the daily list. “The main challenge is speed. Equipment and supplies are consumed very quickly, and any delay can cost too much,” explains Serhii Khutsanu.
What if UAH 100,000 arrived tomorrow? “Most likely — for something that was needed yesterday: FPVs, equipment repair, or communication and EW systems. In the reality of the front, money very rarely sits without a task for more than a few hours.”
Predictability is also a weapon
“Subscribe to army” interested the brigade precisely because of its recurring format. “In war, there is a lot of unpredictability, so any stability is already valuable,” says Serhii Khutsanu.
The first incoming funds did not cause euphoria, but something more precise. “Rather, it was a feeling of support. Even small but regular incoming funds give the understanding that there are people behind us who systematically support our Knights.”
The main difference between a subscription and one-time fundraisers is predictability. “One-time fundraisers can be very successful, or they can take a long time to close. A subscription allows us at least to roughly plan expenses and respond faster.” After regular funds appeared, the brigade gained an understanding of its minimum monthly resource. “For the front, this is important because many decisions here are measured literally in hours.”
At the moment, the subscription provides not so much for large purchases as for operational flexibility. “These funds help us close current needs faster without constantly being in ‘urgent fundraiser’ mode,” he adds.
Army and society: feedback
“It is a reminder that the army and society are still connected. In war, it is very easy to lock yourself into your own reality, and such support brings back the feeling of a shoulder behind your back,” says Serhii Khutsanu about what support from strangers means.
The brigade wants to communicate more with subscribers. “It is important for us to show people that their support is not an abstraction. The more mutual trust there is between the military and society, the stronger the country becomes during war.”
And to those who doubt whether UAH 50 can really make a difference, the answer is brief: “War is sustained not only by big decisions, but also by a large number of small actions. When thousands of people contribute their UAH 50 every month — it becomes a resource that truly works on the front.”
The final message to those who have not subscribed yet fits into one word: “Why?”
